Unless you have been under a rock for the last few years, you know social media is everywhere. On our phones, computers, tablets and even on our newer televisions. If you want to have a successful business, ignoring social media is a very bad idea. Social media marketing isn’t an extra, it’s necessary.

Most people know that a businesses website can be self serving and that if they want to find out about a business, whether it is positively received, has a lot of complaints, etc., that social media will be the place to find it. Often, your customers make the decision to buy from you long before they ever walk into your store.

So when marketing your business how do you make social media work for you? First, your business should have multiple social media outlets. Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest at least. Make the sites interesting and helpful. Give your customers helpful information, not just information on how to buy your products. Some businesses offer fun things like “_______day Giveaway Days” Pick a day and offer a product that day. Everyone who “likes” the post is in the drawing for that product. It’s a great way to add to your customer list.

Use complaints on your social media sites as a way to address the complaint in a positive way. Acknowledge the complaint and do what you can to fix it. That way when you have prospective customers searching for you, they will see that you deal with negative things in a positive way.

When marketing your business, social media cannot be ignored.
