Look at your Facebook page. Now imagine it with no pictures. All of a sudden it loses much of the meaning of the things that are posted. Images are incredibly important to social media and social media marketing. Success in social media marketing now means developing an image-driven strategy, incorporating photos, logos, and graphics into social media pages.
Using images takes some care. You need to select shareable images. This is rather important. Part of being shareable is that they are appealing to your customers and potential customers. Another is that they are your images, or images that you are permitted to use. Using another’s intellectual property without permission, especially to make money, is a violation of Copyright and/or Trademark laws. That said, using your own best brand images is the most important part of a successful “visual social” marketing program.
Once you have the images you want, you need to post them on your social media. Don’t limit yourself to just Facebook, use Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Instagram and even LinkedIn. The former are the higher image-driven sites. Add notes or comments to help engage your audience.
Do you know how your social media images are working?
Make sure you monitor how your use of images works. Are they being shared, retweeted and reposted? If not, you aren’t getting the impact you should be. One way to be sure that you are getting shared is to reward those who do it the most. Make them your brand advocates. Offer them special incentives, such as coupons, discounts, or access to VIP sales. That will, in turn, encourage others and your message will be stronger with each share.
Use images to convey what and who your business is. Show people what you stand for, your values and how important their business and loyalty is to your business. A few good images are well worth many thousands of words in social media marketing.
